We all know about the Covid19 virus by now and how it has changed the world, so I won’t go into introducing/defining what Covid19 is, rather I will dwell on how it has changed the working sector especially Human Resource Management. There are so many negative aspects that have been brought about by the Virus but among all the negatives I found out that there were some positives along the way.

“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.”

As a Human Resource practioner one of the positives that I have seen is a surge in embracing Technology in some of the HR activities, for example we have realized that we can now interview job applicant’s via video conferencing, Technology platforms such as Skype, Google hangouts and Zoom have enables interviewers and candidates to see and communicate with each other in real time using their computers.

I am particularly happy that mental awareness during this Covid period has been heightened, and as a Human resource practitioner we are no longer concentrating on the mundane day to day administrative duties, but more on conducting mental awareness sessions, we are keeping employees engaged on wellness activities and this has strengthened employee relations.

Lastly we have now discovered that employees can actually work at home, and as Human resource practitioners this has been the perfect time to come up with policies on flexi  hours , this has saved the company in terms in lowering costs

According to research Workers are more likely to stay put if their company offers flexibility. Flexibility is also a cheap way for companies to “reward” employees. Employees have a greater sense of work-life balance and also  tend to be happier at work.

I will pen off with the following quote by Marie Curie  ‘

“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
